Location
Athy is 45 miles South from the centre of Dublin in Co. Kildare. It is served by a motorway and good roads to the capital. There is a Railway Station with regular trains to Dublin and Waterford. The Digital Park, Dublin, is now 35 minutes by car, and one hour ten minutes to the Dublin Airport.
The property is within the Town of Athy and is five minutes walking from the town centre where there are three main supermarkets and a department store together with 35 pubs. The house is very quiet and private but the town itself offers good variety of shops and evening entertainment. There are both primary and secondary schools within walking distance together with a lively Heritage Centre and fine Public Library.
The River Barrow is fully navigable for riverboats and is at the front of the property, beyond a road. There is a full size modern slipway for launching boats within 50 metres of the house. The Grand Canal and River have a junction within the Town, some 400 metres downstream. There are no problems or charges with the hobby and pleasure use of these facilities. Rod fishing is good in both of these waters. There is also a rowing club.
There is plenty of opportunity for equestrian sports, and golf, rugby, Gaelic football, tennis, and a public swimming pool can all be found in the area. The Curragh race course is 20 minute drive from the house. Sports clubs and riding schools abound.
